Official Tutorial On How to Mod or Hack Black Ops

As several people already decided to leak it, I'm going to release an official tutorial.
You will need to have:
-3.55 PS3
-4.11 PS3
-USB stick
-Tools for decrypting and encrypting self/bin files, I would recommend using failoverfl0w's tools
-HxD (or your preferred hex editor)

ZOMBIES/CAMPAIGN:

Prerequisite: Data transfer from your 4.11 PS3 to your 3.55 PS3. This step can be skipped if you have Xploder. If you do skip it, you will need to use Xploder to resign your savegame before you load it on your 4.11 PS3.

1. Unself the debug EBOOT.BIN from the 1.02 update.
2. For the regular EBOOT.ELF, open it in HxD hex editor and go to the offset 0x35DE2C. Replace the next 8 bytes with this hex:

Code:
3C A0 00 90 38 A5 6E 20
3. Now, go to the offset 0x35DE4C. Replace the next four bytes with this hex:

Code:
3C A0 00 8F
4. Last hex replace, go to the offset 0x35DE54. Replace the next four bytes with this hex:

Code:
38 A5 FF 20
5. Now, go to the offset 0x8DFF20. This is where you will put binds/dvars for the GPAD0_SP file. Type up whatever stuff you want in here in notepad and copy it, then paste write (NOT paste insert) the text into the file starting at this offset. It is critical that the total size of your dvars/binds/commands is less than 1000 bytes or the save will not work.
6. The offset 0x8F6E20 is where the commands go for the GPAD0_CM file. Just like above, type up whatever stuff you want in here in notepad and copy it, then paste write (NOT paste insert) the text into the file starting at this offset. It is critical that the total size of your dvars/binds/commands is less than 1000 bytes or the save will not work.
7. Take the EBOOT.ELF you just finished modifying, save it, and make it into an EBOOT.BIN (I would recommend using failoverfl0w's tools for this). On your 3.55 ps3 install the 1.02 update, then copy your custom EBOOT.BIN into your USRDIR. Delete any black ops save data and launch the game. At the main menu, just click through all the settings and change your sensitivity. Quit the game, and your modified save data will be ready to go under Saved Data Utility. Copy it to a USB and save it for later.
8. Install the 1.13 update for black ops on your 3.55 PS3. Replace the patch.ff in the USRDIR/english directory with this one.
9. Data transfer to your 4.11 PS3, then sign in on your 4.11 on the same user account you were on when you generated the custom save. Copy the save over from your USB to your PS3. Enjoy having your binds/commands online

FOR MULTIPLAYER:
1. Unself the t5mp_ps3f.self just like you would have for zombies, follow steps from above.
2. Open it in HxD and go to the offset 0x524C5C. Replace the next 8 bytes with this hex:

Code:
3C A0 00 9E 38 A5 21 C0
3. Go to the offset 0x524C7C. Replace the next 12 bytes with this hex:

Code:
3C A0 00 9E 38 E0 03 E8 38 A5 24 5A
4. Go to the offset 0x9D2190. Here is where you can add a few dvars. Keep the length under 50 characters for this one.
5. Go to the offset 0x9D21D0. Here you can insert your dvars. Keep the length under 1000 characters or it won't be read by the game. Also, be warned that most dvars are cheat protected or get reset after the savegame loads.
6. Take the t5mp_ps3f.elf you just finished modifying, save it, and make it into an EBOOT.BIN (I would recommend using failoverfl0w's tools for this). On your 3.55 ps3 install the 1.02 update, then copy your custom EBOOT.BIN into your USRDIR. Delete any black ops save data and launch the game. At the MP menu, just wait til it fully loads and quit the game. Quit the game, and your modified save data will be ready to go under Saved Data Utility. Copy it to a USB.
7. Copy the save over to it's corresponding account on your 4.11 PS3. Enjoy your mods

How does it work?
It works by modifying the EBOOT to write your own data to the savegame. To be more specific, you take advantage of the default function in the game which saves data. What you are doing is modifying a pointer in the function to inject your own string of data, and the game takes that string and fully encrypts it for you so you don't have to worry about encrypting/decrypting any data on your own.

Now it's out. Hopefully all the leechers are happy, using zombie binds can and will get you console banned because you're using a modified fastfile. And you can be account banned for anything else.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Ancient Warrior Pack revised price and launch date

Capcom has revealed their revised price and release date for the upcoming Ancient Warrior Pack of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The new DLC is now set to come out on March 6th in North America with a reduced price tag of $1.99 on the Playstation Store and 160 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace. You can check out the new costumes for Hulk, Arthur and Firebrand from the Ancient Warrior Pack, as well as several older screens from the game, in the slideshow to the left of this article.
The DLC was originally priced at $3.99 and scheduled to come out in North America on December 20th. However, the Magneto costume that was initially included in the set was discovered to be similar to the attire of King Juan Carlos of Spain. As a result, Capcom removed the costume and change the release plans for the Ancient Warrior Pack.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter Revealed

The next Medal of Honor game is coming this October.

According to the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, the game is called Medal of Honor: Warfighter. The sequel to the 2010 reboot is again being developed by Danger Close studios and follows the story of Tier 1 Operators. Multiplayer is being developed in house this time, not by DICE.

The game also uses the Frostbite 2.0 engine, the same engine that powered Battlefield 3.

EA will have more to show at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco next month. In the meantime, check out the new OXM for more details, interviews, and screenshots.

The first image of the game was posted on the official Medal of Honor website today.

Rumour: The Next Xbox Will Play Blu-Ray, May Not Play Used Games (And Will Introduce Kinect 2)

Microsoft will upgrade its disc technology for its next Xbox from DVDs to Blu-Ray discs, catching up to rival Sony, games industry sources tell Kotaku.
Sony's PlayStation 3 currently supports Blu-Ray, which can contain 25 or 50GB of data compared to DVD's 9GB.

But that disc detail could be far less impactful to the next generation of game consoles than the assertion I've heard from one reliable industry source that Microsoft intends to incorporate some sort of anti-used game system as part of their so-called Xbox 720.

It's not clear if that means that the system wouldn't play used games or how such a set-up would work. Obvious approaches—I'm theorizing here—like linking a copy of a game to a specific Xbox Live account could seemingly be foiled by used-game owners who would keep their system offline. My source wasn't sure how Microsoft intended to implement any anti-used game system in the new machine.

A push in any way by Microsoft against used games would likely be cheered from publishers sick of seeing retailers like GameStop crow about their revenues from the sale of used games. But it could potentially anger consumers who rely on buying cheaply-sold used games or even pass games to relatives or friends.

One source familiar with Microsoft's plans for the new Xbox said Microsoft plans to ship their new Xbox with a new version of its red-hot Kinect hands-free sensor system. The new Kinect would contain an on-board processor, a feature originally intended for the first Kinect. That processor would enable a new Kinect to more effectively detect users' motions.

I'm also hearing that Microsoft is interested in making a smaller controller for its new console.

And what of gaming site IGN's report that the machine could be six times more powerful than the Xbox 360? From some industry sources I'm hearing that that's the right ballpark and that Microsoft is estimating they might even get to 8x the Xbox 360. But another insider clarified that no one in the industry has development kits yet and that any talk about specs right now is still hypothetical.

[UPDATE: A Microsoft rep e-mailed me the following statement: "As an innovator we're always thinking about what is next and how we can push the boundaries of technology like we did with Kinect. We believe the key to extending the lifespan of a console is not just about the console hardware, but about the games and entertainment experiences being delivered to consumers. Beyond that we don't comment on rumors or speculation."]

"Xbox 720" is being used as shorthand by reporters like me to refer to the next Xbox. It's not necessarily the name of the next device. Tech sites Semi Accurate and Fudzilla have reported that the first chips for 720 development kits are going into production, leading to a possible late 2013 release despite my earlier reporting which had pointed to 2014 as the year of the next Xbox and PlayStation.

Nintendo's next console, the Wii U, will go on sale later this year.

MW3 Patch 1.08 Notes – Shotgun Tweaks, Theater Improvements, Akimbos Nerfed

In an interview with the guys over at Machinima Respawn, Modern Warfare 3′s Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling, detailed exactly what was included in the latest patch, 1.08, now live on the Xbox 360 and soon to be on the PlayStation 3 and PC.

Shotguns:

“Nerfed the Striker a little bit, buffed the rest of the shotguns.” When it comes specifically to the Striker, Bowling mentioned that they “reduced the amount of pellets it used. So, right now, all the shotguns should be 9 pellets and the striker’s 6 pellets.” They also “slightly reduced spread and damage” of the Striker.

Akimbos:

“We also nerfed Akimbos across the boards. So, not just FMG9′s but Akimbos across the board should have a lower fire-rate now.”

Theater:

“A ton of theater improvements and fixes” also made it into the patch. “So, if anybody was having trouble viewing their clips, or getting error 7 or getting the black screen stuff – all of that stuff should be gone.” Bowling also added that ”YouTube uploads should be 100 times faster than they were when we launched now,” or at least “it’s nearly 100 times faster, just under 100 times.”

General:

Also included were “more tweaks to lag compensation, or host advantage.” Now, it “should be better when you’re host, if you have a fast connection.” Also, “there’s general network improvements that we did,” as well as some “bug fix stuff.” Unfortunately, no specifics were given regarding bug fixes. Bowling also mention that there was some improvements made to the ”banning stuff.” It also goes without saying that support for the new maps were also included in this patch.

To be added tonight:

Bowling recently announced that maps would be receiving more “weight” tonight, meaning that they would show up more often in the map rotation.

Update 1 (more on bugs):

Bowing recently added these notes to the official Call of Duty forums:

Networking enhancements, Theater improvements and fixes, Further improvements to “Host Disadvantage” / “Lag Comp”, Increased speed of YouTube uploads from 32k to 256k, Nerf to all Akimbo weapons (reduced fire rate), Shotgun re-balance (Slight nerf to Striker, slight buff to all other shotguns), Fix that prevents some users from not receiving their prestige token after prestiging, fix stat bug that retains “games played” stat across prestiges.

Update 2 (Hotfix):

Bowling has stated that we should “expect a 50% decrease to the fire rate of all Akimbo weapons in MW3. We’re doing a hotfix tonight to properly nerf them.”
