Have Sony finally beat the Pirates?

If you are type of person who doesn't pay for games and has Killzone 3 installed on your custom firmware 3.55 PS3, I have news for you.

After the latest Killzone 3 game update (v1.09), when installed, it will stop the game from booting up on custom firmware due to 3.60 encryption keys found in the update file (EBOOT.BIN). I have a feeling this may be the case for future game updates as Sony continually battles the pirates.

Head over to the site and discuss your thoughts

THE REASON WHY HACKERS ARE TRYING TO TARGET SONY ALL THE TIME. CAN'T RUN PIRATE SOFTWARE AND IT UPSETS THE BASTARDS. LOL. GOOD.

bwhahaha fail, the reason why we hack the PS3 because its so easy.

classic bs

Not everyone who hacks the PS3 does it for piracy. More often than not these things are hacked to run homebrew software on them, not pirated games. It's the parasites that choose to pirate things.

Someone will always try and explain how they are not using hack to run pirate software. Yeah Yeah homebrew sure. At some point I believe all hacks are used for gaming illegal. Sugar coat it all you want the temptation would get to anybody. Sure I'm going to go to bestbuy and pay 60 bucks plus taxes when I can just download it for free. Goodluck getting people to believe that.

Who cares hackers just need to stop go for something else PS was hacked and its over go on to something else or get a girl, smoke some weed, go jerk off or something

What a sad bunch of commenters... They'll just figure out the keys for 3.60 and so on and the battle will continue. Arguing with an idiot proves there's two. You'll never convince the ones with the wool over there eyes of your true intentions. Nobody understands hackers because the real ones aren't out for attention. Only the dumb ones become spectacles. Until the majority realizes that, the tension will never end.

Wasn't there a ruling on hacking certain mobile devices... seems like the context of that should play a role in this.

Seriously, WHO THE FUCK WOULD WANNA UPDATE THEIR PIRATED GAME?!?!?! I sure as hell wouldnt. I give a couple of weeks before this gets hacked as well.
SONY, great company i love their products no doubt BUT they suck at patching security flaws and whatnot! PSP anyone?

If only Sony spent 1/10th the effort on improving gaming instead of fighting a tiny group of pirates, maybe they wouldn't be dead last right now and hacked to oblivion.

When's the last time an update improved anything for the gamers? All they do is take features away and move them to Plus and add features to sell their own 3D TVs.

The 360 runs pirated games since forever but you don't see Microsoft going crazy eyed with lawyers in tow after every last pirate that exists and they don't inconvenience us gamers when they do (ban hammers).

Sony should really get a clue and prioritize their time. Don't go removing features that customers already paid then lie about after just to save a little money - that sure backfired in your greedy faces.

A huge majority of hackers use pirated software, and only for the intention of pirated software. The amount of people who actually do use it for completely originally created stuff on their PS3's, and not pirated software, are in the numbers of a few hundred people. That only accounts for .10% of those people. the other 99.90% use it strictly for the ability to not pay for new video games. Sorry but with a statistic like that I'd rather have the pirates completely locked out of the PS3. No matter what type of pro argument they make that is for CFW I'd rather see it disappear. And stop lying to yourself. You know it is the truth no matter what. If you do create completely original stuff then bravo, apply to work for Sony. If you are a pirate then you are not a gamer, and should burn your PS3 to cleanse yourself.

If people want to run their own software on something, why not a PC? Why use a PS3 when its such a struggle, just connect your PC to your TV and skip the constant hassle?

I have a feeling this war has only just begun.

Duh NO. This does not stop piracy.
Pirates will just delete the update. ROFL. Has someone forgotten that updates can be deleted? Update brix game... update gets deleted... viola... game worx

People like "The Con-Sept" that come on sites making up percentages for their own opinions is why so many people are mislead. Once again, the masses show their intelligence...

The whole home-brew scene was created to legitimize hacking for the purpose of piracy. Don't tell me that someone is more interested in a crappy weather application than getting games for free.

I am so sick of hearing about the virtues of the hacker community. They are crooks. If a neighborhood kid went around breaking into local businesses people would be concerned. Give the same kid a computer and have him digitally break and enter into major corporations and he is a hero? I don't buy it. These people lack integrity and they can't be trusted.

@Cole - Are you going to provide the keys? No WHY because you are a script kiddy that doesn't know shit. Just because you sympathize with hackers doesn't make you cool. Why don't you use your own talents and not rely on other people or "a scene" for your own self esteem.

What ever happened to the individual are all young people mindless sheep with nothing better to do? If WWII was the greatest generation, then we may be upon our worst generation if people need to ride hackers coat tails to gather social value.

@Anonymous Follower #123,462 - Mindlessly bashing others over subjects you don't understand just proves my point. I'll continue to site my opinions as long as misinformation keeps flowing from jokes like you.

Get some balls and put your name down, son.

@ Cole, "Wasn't there a ruling on hacking certain mobile devices... seems like the context of that should play a role in this. "

unfortunately the same ruling would need to go through the courts, most people expected geohot to carry on his "fight" against Sony but he backed down, which was a shame imo as I like the homebrew scene (not piracy to the people that don't know the difference)
